more baking

This week Alex had some time off of school so we decided to spend some time baking cupcakes on Tuesday. We made lemon cupcakes with a buttercream frosting which we dyed a reddish pinkish color.

Then for Thanksgiving I made cherry pie cupcakes. They are a vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting that I colored a light brown. I used red M&M's to look like cherries and then decorates them to look like pies. We were debating if it looked better with out the decoration around the sides so I did half and half. I guess you can decide which looks better.

Birthday cake

Over the weekend I made a birthday cake for my sister in law. It is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting and some pom pom flowers on top. It was the first time I had made chocolate frosting and it tasted very good but was a pain in the butt to get to the right consistency. The cake also had strawberry filling...I'm not going to lie...it was pretty tasty.

Monkey cake take 1

So my friends husband had a birthday the other week and we went to celebrate with them over the weekend. And for it she asked me to make a monkey cake, which will also be the cake I make for addies birthday. Here are some of the pictures of the cake.

Last class

Here is the cake I made for my last cake decorating class. I know the colors are crazy but I had them left from last week and did not want to have to throw them away so that is why the cake was frosted orange.And I like how the roses turned out. Depending on how firm the frosting is they will be smoother or more open like mine. I prefer mine but to each their own.Oh and once again it was a vanilla cake with strawberry filling.

Cupcakes!!

Here are a couple pictures of cupcakes with shaggy mums on top of them...I did not get to eat any of these but I have some great taste testers living with me, and they really enjoyed. They are vanilla cupcakes, with vanilla filling( can u tell what flavor we like in this house?) and then decorated with buttercream frosting.

Zachs first field trip

On Tuesday Zach had his first field trip to Sonny Acres pumpkin farm. I dropped Addie of at daycare and Zach and I ventured out to meet up with his class. Since he is the middle child he doesn't get a lot of one on one time with Rob and me. So I was excited to be able to spend a couple hours with my favorite 3 year old.
We went on the haunted hay ride, walked through the haunted shed ( he really liked that part), fed some goats and ended at the play area.
Zach had a lot of fun. He is really loving school and reminds me all the time that when he is number 5 (5 years old) he will get to ride the bus like Alex. Can you tell someone loves their big brother and wants to be just like him? It was great being able to just hang with him and not have to worry about Alex or Addie. I can not wait until I have another chance. But for now here are a few pictures from his field trip!

My new Mixer

Here it is my NEW Kitchenaid mixer!! And the best part is I only had to pay 85 bucks out of pocket!! Gotta love coupons and gift cards...thank you discover rewards!I can not wait to start using this for baking and many other things!I really wanted a fun funky color but when it came down to it it wasn't worth a extra 60 bucks (couldn't use my coupon online) so I settled for red and I think it looks pretty and shiny in my black and white kitchen!

intro to my baking

i have always baked. growing up my parents taught us all how to cook and bake and i love to do both. recently i started taking a cake decorating class. i have done a little decorating, mostly just for my kids birthday cakes, but i thought it would be fun to learn how to do it the RIGHT way and have my cakes look a little nicer. my friend jen suggested i start a blog about my cakes and cookies so i decided it sounded like a good idea. she even came up with the name (yes jen i am giving you props for all this!)I figure every couple of days i will post some pics of my cakes and hopefully anyone who reads this will be able to see a improvement as time goes by. hopefully i will as well. here is the first cake i did after my first class last week.

thats it for now! i am hoping i get better as time goes along and maybe even make some money on the side in the future! who knows maybe i will be the next cake boss...hahahahaha :)
